In today’s Halo Infinite Set Review I am excited to be breaking down a set which revisits the classic Mongoose and combines it with an assortment of great figures which creates a must-have for fans looking to build both their UNSC and Banished forces ahead of the game’s release in 2021.
Recon Getaway is a 123-piece set which retails for approximately 12.99 here in the UK, and includes four micro action figures, alongside a build of the Mongoose in the new metallic green colour scheme which has been used for more recent Mega Construx sets.
The set also features a 2-in-1 building option, allowing you to build a hovering-type flyer instead of the more traditional Mongoose - but that is not something which we will be touching on in today’s post.
The Mongoose build here is an interesting one - mainly because it incorporates a brand-new style of suspension piece which allows the Mongoose to get a lot more in the way of diverse pose-ability than previous versions of this vehicle. This particular version appears to be the M290 Mongoose - the same version which appears within Halo 5 Guardians, and which features the back-facing seat seen on that version of the Mongoose. Although I do not have older Halo 5 versions of this build to compare to, this build appears to be a lot more involved than previous versions - really building from the ground up with the new suspension elements here.
There is not much more to be said here - this is a nice rendition of the iconic light vehicle which we have all come to associate with Halo, and is a great and easily mass-able vehicle for your UNSC collection.
Alongside the Mongoose we get an assortment of four characters - two Covenant/Banished characters, and two UNSC Marines - providing fans with an easy way to quickly amass an army of the most common characters within the Halo Universe.
The Marines feature two different faces with different ethnicities which is a nice detail, and they also feature different styles of shoulder armour, with one missing armour completely, adding some nice diversity to the options on show here. If you pick up a couple of this pack, you can interchange the elements from these figures with others you may have in your collection - allowing you to expand your UNSC ranks and add much more diversity to your marines than has previously been possible with the Mega Construx line.
We also get an Elite Mercenary here, and a Grunt Conscript, and both of these are familiar designs. The Mercenary is essentially a Halo 2 Anniversary/Halo 3 Combat Elite, meaning this figure can double up as a character useable for earlier games, and the Grunt here is basically a classic Halo Combat Evolved Grunt Minor, but with brown skin instead of grey skin. These figures are nice additions to the line and offer an opportunity to quickly build up some of the most common Covenant ranks.
So, overall this is a great set. The stand-out here has to be the minifigures. Four minifigures at 12.99 alone is a pretty good deal, but incorporating a build such as a Mongoose, which is a pretty involved build and which provides you with an accurate vehicle at the end, and you have an incredibly well-priced set which has some fantastic value for money. I already have two of this set - and I aim to amass a lot more!
