Hey everyone - GCustoms here with my first review on the Podcast Evolved blog.
Today I’ll be reviewing and discussing the newest Halo Mega Construx Set for the summer line up - Banished Chopper Takedown! At 203 pieces, This set comes with 2 micro action figures, one buildable vehicle and a smaller machine gun turret.
Before we dive in, let’s look at the box. On the front of the packaging, you can see a fantastic graphic depicting Fred 104 fighting from an outcropping against the Banished War Chieftain Escharum, on his new Banished Brute Chopper. On the back, you can find additional graphics showing the twist and turn feature of the build, as well as the alternate build - a newer feature in most Mega Construx halo sets.
Starting off with the figures of the set, let’s look at Fred 104. Fred was last seen in his Centurion Gen 2 armor in the Blue Team set, however this time around he’s back in his Gen 1 armor made famous by Halo Legends. He’s cast in a brilliant metallic light blue, and even comes with added painted details like black on the chest as well as his spartan number in white. Fred is outfitted with a spartan laser as well.
Next up, Escharum, the long awaited chieftain. Since the campaign demo of 2020, Mega Construx fans have been dying to have an official figure - and here he finally is! Unlike most Brutes, Escharum has a 2 piece chest and back, clipping directly over the body, instead of the usual slip over harness. He also has a unique Brute head mould including his scars and beard. He’s painted in a darker grey with metal flake as well as accent colors of red and silver for his ornate armor and also comes with a matte grey gravity hammer.
Moving on to the build, the Banished Chopper has loads of new details compared to Mega’s last iteration. This time around there are lots more spikes and sharp edges, even some with printed battle damage like billet holes and scrapes.
The build itself is primarily red and grey, with a few tan and silver pieces here and there. The inside of the drivers seat even has a printed interface. The new feature of the build is a twist and turn mechanic, allowing free movement of the front chassis to turn like seen in game.
The wheels on the inside of the chassis also roseate smoothly, allowing for realistic rolling action and play ability. One figure can be displayed in the drivers seat, and the smaller canons on the sides move up and down.
The last piece of the set is the chain gun turret. While small, it’s still fully functional with a firing mechanism and comes on its own tripod.
Retailing at 19.99 MSRP, this set has a LOT to offer. Two great character figures, a few weapons, and one brilliant build. This is definitely a piece I’d recommend to any Halo fan and Mega collector. This personally is one of my favorite sets of this season, a must have for my collection.
