Today, we are looking at arguably one of the most highly anticipated sets to release as a part of this year’s wave of Mega Construx Halo Infinite sets – the UNSC Marine Gear Pack. A massive thanks to Colin for providing the images for this review. Once I have my own set in hand I will also be producing a video review on our YouTube channel – so do stay tuned and make sure to subscribe to see all of our Mega Construx videos.
We’re going to start with the accessories – since they are the main focus of this set, and the reason why I think most of you will be purchasing this set. We get a fantastic assortment here – with five weapons, grenades, tactical pouches, backpacks, and much, much more. The inclusion of so many different pouch pieces from the Call of Duty line is nice, as it allows you to add a lot of variety to the gear which your characters are equipped with – adding even more layers to the levels of customisation we get with the Marines this year. In addition to the armour which the figures come equipped with, we also get additional shoulder armour and body armour options – as well as two lots of different-design leg straps to really help to add a ton of variety to the ranks of your UNSC forces.
Of particular note here is the inclusion of White Infinite-style body armour for the Marines – something which is currently exclusive to this set. The inclusion of this armour allows us to come the closest we have ever come to having Halo Reach style super-articulated army troopers, and is a welcome inclusion. The inclusion of the pilot helmet and chest gear is also welcome here as pilots are not particularly common figures across the Mega Construx lines, so having access to that gear in an easy format is nice here. I also think the variety in backpacks lends itself nicely to this customisation – with a small pilot-style backpack and a radio pack thrown in for good measure.
When it comes to figures, we have a good mixture of both enemy and friendly forces – providing some good ‘army building’ quality to this set. The single enemy figure in this set is a red Elite Combat – and he comes with a matching-colour Plasma Launcher (yes, I know he is holding it wrong!). The inclusion of the red elite is nice as the colour lends itself nicely to the Banished whilst also being a colour of Sangheili we see in the other Halo games – so it fits into multiple timelines and can be displayed in a variety of ways.
The Marines included here have some nice variety too – with one female Marine included, and one Male Marine with grey facial hair. This adds some nice character to the assortment of Marines we have so far. If you’re anything like me then you’ll have a few different heads for Marines now, so I am excited to change this up and to add some variety to my own ranks when I get my hands on this set.
So, that has been our look at the UNSC Marine Gear Pack. This set offers some fantastic value for money at the $14.99 RRP, as it provides a vast array of unique pieces which can be used to create some great variety in your UNSC forces. The real value of this set isn’t in itself, but is in the potential it brings to other sets. Using the parts from this set, you could easily buy multiples of Recon Getaway – adding a nice variety to the Marines in each set. The sheer potential this set brings is why it is a must-buy for any collector of the Halo Mega Construx line.
