SUMMARY

In the early days of the war, Vice Admiral Preston Cole was given command of a large UNSC fleet to attempt to stop the quick Covenant advances into the outer colonies.  He first pushes back to Harvest and retakes what's left of the colony.  Over the course of the next few years, Cole's fleet is involved in many large-scale battles, which he wins, but at a significant cost to human lives and warships.  While the UNSC is victorious in these battles, the only colony that was able to remain in human control was Harvest, though it was completely destroyed during the fighting.

Towards the end of the Harvest Campaign, the UNSC Spirit of Fire is sent to the colony to assist and investigate the Covenant actions on the surface.  Professor Ellen Anders is kidnapped by ONI and sent to the Spirit of Fire to help determine the goal of the Covenant presence.
