SUMMARY
The War of Beginnings was an eighty-six year conflict between the San’Shyuum Reformists who escaped Janjur Qom after the War of Wills and the Sangheili species between 938 and 852 BCE. Though the Sangheili were by far the better warriors, their refusal to use Forerunner technology due to their worship of the long-gone species and the San’Shyuum’s use of the Forerunner Dreadnought gave the Reformists the upper hand in any battle. After decades of fighting, the Sangheili has lost many of their colonies, and eventually were forced to incorporate Forerunner technology into their warships in order to survive. Though the San’Shyuum had been victorious all the way to the Sangheili homeworld of Sanghelios, they managed to fight to a stalemate, saving the planet from destruction. Knowing that there was no way to win the war, the San’shyuum and Sangheili agreed to end the fighting, signing the Writ of Union in 852 BCE. In addition to ending the war, the Writ of Union was the founding document of the Covenant, beginning over three thousand years of peace between the two species.
