At the tender age of eleven in 2531, Carter was conscripted into the Spartan-III Alpha Company, a program designed to create a new generation of super-soldiers to combat the relentless Covenant threat. His innate leadership qualities and unwavering dedication to the cause quickly set him apart from his fellow Alpha Company candidates. Carter's exceptional performance during training earned him the respect and admiration of his peers and superiors.

By 2536, Carter had successfully completed his Spartan training, emerging as one of the program's most promising graduates. However, his unique abilities and potential marked him as a valuable asset not to be squandered on the perilous suicide missions typically assigned to Spartan-III soldiers. Instead, Carter was entrusted with a pivotal role—he was appointed as the commander of the newly formed Noble Team.
Noble Team was an elite unit comprised of exceptional Spartan-III soldiers, each with their own specialized skills and talents. Under Carter's leadership, they operated as a cohesive and formidable force, undertaking critical missions in the ongoing conflict against the Covenant. In 2552, Noble Team faced their most significant challenge yet as they were thrust into the heart of the Battle of Reach.
During the intense and harrowing campaign to defend Reach from the relentless Covenant onslaught, Carter and Noble Team played a pivotal role. Their notable achievements included the daring destruction of the Covenant supercarrier Long Night of Solace, a mission that disrupted the enemy's strategic advantage. However, despite their valiant efforts, Reach ultimately fell to the Covenant's overwhelming forces.
In a final act of selfless heroism, Carter-A259 gave his life to protect his comrades, Emile-A239 and SPARTAN-B312, during a critical mission to deliver the highly valuable AI Cortana to the Pillar of Autumn. His sacrifice stood as a testament to his unwavering commitment to the protection of humanity and the unyielding spirit of the Spartan program.
