Throughout the tumultuous era of the Human-Covenant War, the Huragok stood as a coveted asset, their potential in human hands deemed highly perilous. To prevent this scenario, bomb vests were affixed to all Huragok, ensuring their obliteration should humanity attempt to harness their capabilities. Despite these measures, the resourceful UNSC managed to successfully apprehend at least one of these remarkable beings, achieving this feat during the war's closing chapters.
Following the cataclysmic events of the Great Schism, which shattered the once-unified Covenant, numerous Huragok vanished from the known expanse of the galaxy. Some, exemplified by individuals like Virgil, collaborated with the UNSC and the clandestine ONI to unravel the mysteries of the Forerunners and their enigmatic technology. Others opted to remain aboard the vessels they were stationed on, continuing their work.
It's important to note that Huragok, being machines without a homeworld, exist in exceedingly scarce numbers across the galaxy. While they possess the capacity for reproduction, the absence of a centralized hub world housing thousands or millions of individuals renders the Huragok uniquely susceptible to the specter of extinction.
