Veronica Dare is a captain in the Office of Naval Intelligence and the love interest of Spartan-IV Edward Buck. Buck and Dare met while on leave during the Human-Covenant War, and while Buck proposed marriage during that brief encounter, they remained mostly apart aside from a handful of ONI-sanctioned missions until after the war. Following the end of conflict with the Covenant, Dare and Buck saw each other more often, with Dare sending Buck and Alpha-Nine on at least two missions to neutralize insurrectionist threats.

Following Buck’s recruitment into the Spartan-IV program and subsequent betrayal by Mickey, however, Buck joined Fireteam Osiris and no longer took mission orders from Dare. They were reunited once again after the Battle of Genesis, with Dare ordering Buck to revive his old Alpha-Nine squad and execute a covert mission to an insurrectionist stronghold. At the completion of that mission, Dare proposed to Buck, and both were married on-board the UNSC Infinity by the ship’s AI Roland.
